The 12-foot CID Assassin Surf Fishing Rod Rapid Spin Zero is a more affordable option than the Kobmaster and features a lure rating of 1 to 3 oz. It can definitely be used for set-rig fishing, but at Panhandle Salt, we mainly use this rod to throw lures out deep.

On a typical day on the beach, sight fishing for reds, jacks, Spanish mackerel, and bluefish, we like to carry a 9-foot rod with a max lure capacity of 2 oz—plus the Rapid Zero 12-footer in case we need to reach farther with heavier lures.
